We believe AFRC News is the best newsletter of its kind available in the United States. Incisively written, it presents a fair and accurate assessment of issues and events that are impacting the more effective long term management of federally-owned forests in the 12 western states.

AFRC, based in Portland Oregon, was founded in October of 2000 following the merger of the Northwest Forestry Association and the Independent Forest Products Association. It represents the federal timber interests of more than 80 family-owned forest product manufacturers and landowners in 12 western states.

AFRC is the heir to a rich lumbering history that begins with the founding of the old West Coast Lumbermen's Association at Raymond, Washington in August of 1911.

Of West Coast's many contributions to forestry in the Douglas-fir region, none looms larger than its landmark role in the establishment of the American Tree Farm System, a vision doggedly pursued by Bill Greeley, the association's president from 1928 until his retirement in 1945. Before his hiring, Greeley had been the legendary third chief of the U.S. Forest Service and the principal architect of the 1924 Clarke-McNary Act, a landmark federal law that cleared the way for private investments in science-based forestry in the West.
