Energy Myths and Realities

Editor's Note:

In April, Keith Rattie, who is chairman and chief executive officer of Questar, a Utah-based natural gas producer, gave one of the finest and certainly most thought-provoking speeches we've ever read. The topic is energy, or more to the point, myths and realities concerning the nation's long-term energy needs. Although Mr. Rattie's speech would seem to have little if anything to do with forestry, we highly recommend that you read it and consider its implications for biomass energy development in the United States. Mr. Rattie was addressing students at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, a fact we consider significant given today's highly politicized energy debate.
