We have been deluged by responses to Barry Wynsma's thoughtful essay on Forest Service leadership - or the lack thereof. Provided here is some feedback on the essay.
Editor's Note:
W.V. "Mac" McConnell held line and staff positions with the U.S. Forest Service, Southwestern Region from 1943 through 1972. Since 1979, he has been working as a forestry consultant and land management planner, principally in Florida where he lives.
He has written numerous articles concerning biomass.
Recently, Mr. McConnell sent us a very interesting chart he developed that displays the relationship between the decline in federal timber harvesting and the alarming increase in tree mortality in national forests.
