We have been deluged by responses to Barry Wynsma's thoughtful essay on Forest Service leadership - or the lack thereof. Provided here is some feedback on the essay.
W.V. "Mac" McConnell writes from Florida. He is a U.S. Forest Service retiree whose Power Point presentations have appeared on our website many times. His latest efforts are nearby: an updated version of his earlier "Timber Resource Management" Power Point and a fascinating photograph, "One Landscape: Four Views," that shows what is happening on adjacent public and private forests at Deep Creek, near Townsend, Montana.

FROM THE EDITOR ~
Dear Subscribers:
This is week two of our revised newsletter and I've received many positive comments from readers regarding the new look. And many have asked how they can help support our efforts. Thank you for your input and kind words. I'm glad you like the revised format as this is part of our renewed commitment to provide you with the best tools possible to help you and your businesses.
As you may recall from my message in last week's issue, I acquired Smallwood-News and TimberBuySell.com from its former nonprofit owner who could no longer subsidize the newsletter and Web site. A weekly e-newsletter and large Web site - updated daily - demand a lot of time and resources, and I've had to call on some other folks to help me keep everything running smoothly. It's just too much for me to handle by myself. With these additional operational expenses, we need to charge a small subscription fee in order to continue bringing you these important resources. My goal is to keep this affordable, and at only $3 dollars per month ($36 per year), I hope you agree that the value these tools bring you far exceed the small investment. We will have a simple way to subscribe and pay via credit card or by check in the coming weeks and will notify you as soon as that is available.
We plan many improvements to the newsletter and Web site in the coming year and are open to any suggestions you may have. Please keep the ideas coming. As always, we look forward to hearing from you.
I very much appreciate your readership and support.
