We have been deluged by responses to Barry Wynsma's thoughtful essay on Forest Service leadership - or the lack thereof. Provided here is some feedback on the essay.
W.V. "Mac" McConnell writes from Florida. He is a U.S. Forest Service retiree whose Power Point presentations have appeared on our website many times. His latest efforts are nearby: an updated version of his earlier "Timber Resource Management" Power Point and a fascinating photograph, "One Landscape: Four Views," that shows what is happening on adjacent public and private forests at Deep Creek, near Townsend, Montana.
Editor's comment concerning Mike Petersen's (Executive Director - Lands Council) Response To Dr. Tom Bonnicksen's Essay, "Death Of A Forest: Why We Should Care"
Dear Readers:
This past weekend I attended the Montana Logging Association spring meeting in Kalispell where there was much buzz on biomass to energy, which as many of you know is something I'm passionate about. Our Saturday afternoon speaker was Bruce Vincent from Libby and he gave a colorful and entertaining speech on the public perception of the logging industry spanning 30 years and a new virtual classroom called Provider World. This site was built to help further a larger overarching program called Provider Pals - which builds bridges of cultural respect and understanding between our rural and urban youth, and natural resource providers. Although you may have heard of Provider Pals, you may not be aware of the new virtual game community for kids. Please click here for more details about Provider World, where kids can interact, adopt a logger, get in touch with our natural resources and more.
Best wishes,
Craig Rawlings
