The Future of the Forest Economy

Editor's Note:

On May 21, eight Californians, including Randy Moore, USFS Regional Forester for the Pacific Southwest [California] Region, testified before the House Subcommittee on National Parks, Forests and Public Lands in Washington, D.C. The subcommittee is chaired by Democrat, Raul Grijalva, a Tucson, Arizona native who represents that state's Seventh Congressional District and is widely considered to be one of the most liberal members of the House. He was a popular choice of environmental groups to head the Department of Interior, but the job went to Colorado Senator Ken Salazar.

Attached here are the PDF files for Mr. Moore's presentation as well as those of seven others who are struggling to make sense of the Obama Administration's federal forest policy, especially the House vote to exclude federal biomass from the energy bill that is currently winnowing its way through Congress. As you read the testimony of these six witnesses, consider the enormous untapped economic potential that is currently locked away in the nation's dead and dying federal forests.
