This is the edge of an A-to-Z thinning project on the Colville National Forest. It was completed several years ago by Vaagen Brothers Lumber Company, Colville, Washington. We featured this project in an Evergreen report published seven years ago. The report, "Evergreen State No More" drew a sharp destinction between A-to-Z's low risk aftermath and the explosive wildfire risks present in every other National Forest in the Evergreen State. How It Should be Done in Every Western National Forest...Why isn't it?

Most of the West's lumbermen believe that forestry education is a waste of "time, talent, and treasure." At least that's what one of them told me several years ago when I asked him to consider a contribution to our public outreach.
