Wildland fire suppression costs of the United States Forest Service have risen from $1 billion USD in the fire season of 2012 to $4.5 billion today, in just eight years. The actual rise in Forest Service expenditures is more than double the number projected in a 2015 Forest Service report which speculated that fire suppression costs would increase to about $2 billion by 2026.
